Whimsical and blustery were the two words used to describe this year's Festival of Flowers, presented by The Providence Hospital Foundation in Mobile, Alabama. In my opinion, the two words I would have used were, "The best!" Even though you can see in the photo above that the larger-than-life chess pieces were toppled over by the wind, it was still magical.
I've been to the Festival of Flowers almost every year for the past oh . . . I guess it's been 8 or 10 years now. I don't know, how long have they been having it? I think for over 20 years! Every year is beautiful and has unique features, but everything this year was totally, "uprooted" and changed around, which always leads to floral-excitement for all of us giggly-garden-types.
A Dr. Seuss inspired theme gave way to bold colors and shapes. My favorite table displays were still there this year, but pared down to a smaller area. This one above, went to the dogs!
The display of floral arrangements was beautiful, and was flipped this year to be on the far right side of the enormous tent, with the open-end leading to the outdoor exhibits being down on the left.
Here's a little skunk driving a tractor and chasing chickens. Never thought I'd write that sentence, much less see it for myself.
The largest outdoor flower show in the Southeast, the Festival of Flowers is also the best smelling show you can possibly attend, except for maybe the Festival of Cookies. Is there such a thing? I must find out.
Some of the displays were taken straight from the pages of Dr. Seuss. Anyone recognize The Lorax?
This stone bench was enormous. I would have looked like a tiny garden gnome if I'd sat on it.
Just as the theme was fanciful, so were the plants. Many tropical items, like this pineapple were included, as were unique water features and pathways.
The children's area was abuzz with crafting activities, and the giant tree in the back was hollow and held laughing little children!
Always inspiring, and full of great ideas. Let the planting begin!
