Hanging around in the Kudzu

Just to keep the confusion down, this isn't me.   Here's how it happened; my friend Megrez Mosher opened Kudzu Aerial Yoga Studio, and yes that's "aerial" as in, "up-in-the-air."   Megrez invited me to come to her class because she knew how limber, athletic and strong in need of exercise I was. Being up for almost any new challenge, I agreed to meet her at the next class in her new studio, which is located in the old Masonic building, constructed in 1938, on Young Street.   Built from old Clay City tile, the historic building is a beautiful old place, full of character and a perfect setting for Megrez's studio full of kudzu "vines" which dangle upstairs and . . .   her brother Cleveland's art studio and gallery downstairs. There is also meeting space and a warm, inviting lounge area.   The brother and sister duo grew up in "The Castle" which I wrote about HERE, so no wonder they are two of the most creative people in town!   I don't think I was the youngest one there, but I wasn't the oldest either, which was good because I had feared everyone else would be teenagers.  Of course, this being a small town, I ended up seeing some of my friends there as well, which made it all the more fun. Megrez led us at a slow, safe pace and encouraged us to only go as far as we were able. The silks helped us stretch and move in ways a regular yoga class never could.
This is a photo from one of her other classes, and yes, this is what we were aiming for. Those who had previously attended aerial yoga class with Megrez assured me it wasn't difficult and in fact, felt great. Yeah . . . right.   Megrez is certified in about umpteen different exercise and aerial qualifications. She has trained and tested like crazy to ensure complete safety in all her classes. The studio was professionally rigged and has a circus certification rating. Really. Seriously. I've finally run away and joined the circus!   S-t-r-e-a-t-c-h! We also sat on the floor and stretched out our neck muscles which felt great. Every literal twist and actual turn, Megrez was there guiding us and giving gentle advice. She conducts several classes each day, and offers parties for groups.   I kept thinking about how much I loved to swing when I was a little girl. The class was so much fun, and all of us were laughing, relaxing and having a great time. I was afraid I would be sore the next day, and in some areas I was, but really, not that bad. It was a far more gentle workout than I anticipated.   And then . . I did it! I assure you, I was in perfect form, but for reasons of modesty, I'll spare you the other half of the story. My head wasn't on the floor, I was actually dangling by my hips. If I could have stopped laughing, it would have been more relaxing, but it was so much fun, I couldn't help it!   Click the video above to see what I finally (thought I) looked like after only one class! Megrez is amazing! If you are in our area, go by between 4:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, September 27, 2015 for the open house which includes a community class at 6pm!   Tell me now, would you give this a try? * See the official web site with contact information for Kudzu: Aerial Fitness and Kinetic Arts  HERE.
