There’s no fooling her today. April is hard at work, tending the flowers at the Welcome Center as she has been doing since 2003.
Sculpted by Mobile, Alabama artist Jo Hess and donated by several residents of Fairhope, April always has a beautiful potted plant to share with the city.
Watched over and cared for by the City Workers, April, who is a little on the quiet side, greets everyone at the Fairhope Welcome Center.
April’s bare feet and overalls are ready for a spring day, and she’s glad “her” month is finally here.
She was growing weary of people hanging their Mardi Gras beads around her neck.
April wants me to inquire what you are planting in your garden this spring.
Geraniums, herbs, potatoes, peas and tomatoes for me. What about you?

Fairhope is one of the nicest small coastal towns and is so welcoming with pretty flowers everywhere. I am glad to see the welcome center through your photos and view the lovely sculpture of April.
She’s a very pretty girl! 🙂 Not planting in the ground till close to the end of May…started a few seeds in the house which will move to the porch soon and then many more on the porch in the next week or so…let’s see, alyssum, cardinal vine, sunflower vine, cleome, lots more…time to play in some dirt! 🙂
Little April is darling and I’m sure she has a green thumb even thought it looks bronze. Thanks for popping in to see me.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 🙂
This year I’ll be trying something new, a small pallet garden on my deck. Mostly herbs, lettuce, and a few flowers. Not enough space to grow tomatoes.
