Two stories — one front page!

For those of you who have been reading my blog for a long time, you’ll remember this story about my husband’s grandmother Mimi. I love it so much, that I’ve rewritten it (I had to shorten it actually) and am using it for this Sunday’s column, which happens to fall on Christmas Day.

I’ll send you straight to the story HERE.

Also, another fun note . . . I had my very first FRONT PAGE story appear in Wednesday’s paper! I was asked to write a pre-parade story on the Dollar General Bowl Parade that will take place tonight (Thursday) in downtown Mobile. It was supposed to contain straightforward facts and such, but I fluffed it up and even managed to get a quote (rumored quote) from Santa.

The guys at the paper said it was, “the best darn pre-parade story (they’d) ever seen!” I wonder if there’s a Pulitzer category for that? Anyway, they pitched it for the front page, and there it was! I know! I know! . . . I get excited over things like that!

And wouldn’t you know, I didn’t get my paper delivered yesterday. The paper’s circulation department is a pain in my side. I had to go out and actually buy a paper from the newsstand.

*

I can’t find the link to the story for some reason, but let me just say, if you read it, you’d hop on a plane from Alaska to be here for this parade! Hahaha! If you’re in the Mobile area, the fun starts downtown tonight at 5pm in Bienville Square with a pep rally and street party, then the parade begins along the regular route at 6:30pm.

Hope your Christmas plans are coming together and you are relaxed and organized enough to enjoy the beautiful gifts of the season.

You captured the true beauty and magic of giving at Christmastime with your story of Kathleen. To be able to bring so much joy to your Mimi must have been a gift to you as well. Congratulations on your front page story about the parade. Well done!!

Mimi was so precious and we were thrilled to make her happy. It sure beat cologne and talcum powder!

Wow, the front page…that is this high school newspaper editor’s dream. I do remember the doll story and love it. Merry Christmas…this has been a challenging school year, I am hoping I can knock out one or two posts over my break. Take Care.
