Moving on — 25 years!
I can’t thank you all enough for the beautiful condolences you’ve sent regarding the death of my father. It has been a terribly difficult time and with the addition of sending my youngest son to college, it seemed like the world was unraveling.
Months ago, when things seemed perfectly normal, Bob and I planned a trip to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. After going back and forth, “should we?” “shouldn’t we?” we decided to go ahead and take off on our trip.
So . . . I’m writing to you now from lovely Paris! We spent several days in London, then took the train over to France. The weather has been beautiful – downright cold in London, but we left a 90° heatwave back home, so cooler weather was great. Paris is like a chilly autumn day as we stroll around and do all the tourist things.
More details will come later, but I’ll be taking some time off from the regular newspaper column, and slowing the blog down a bit. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see some of the highlights of our trip so far. I’m trying to post there daily. Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement and prayers. I love knowing that many of you knew my Dad or have had a similar life experience and can offer comfort. This trip is the perfect thing I needed to refocus and stop sitting at home moping around. Our anniversary came at just the right time!
Life is good and should be celebrated. We cry, we laugh, we clink glasses together and kiss. Another day is here and life goes on.
Bless you, and congratulations, didn’t the time fly?
You will remember your Father for ever and your twenty five years with anticipation of the next twenty five!
Just try to remember how much everyone who knows you admires you.
Fairhope is happy to have you here!
Thanks Arlene. Time really does fly, especially the part with the children at home. It’s beautiful here, but I can’t wait to get home!
So happy you decided to go for your trip, you need it! It’s so hard to loose our sweet dads. My sister and I went to London after loosing our dad. I’m so happy to see you went to the service at Westminstert. I’ll always remember that the time Jim and I went. You look like you are enjoying all the beautiful sites, September is a pretty time to travel there. Thinking of you sweetie……..Blesssing.
Thanks Emily. We’ve referred to your notes several times for tips on where to go!
Congratulations. I love it when people grow older together and still look even better if possible. Your dad is smiling down on you both as you walked hand in hand in Paris
Beautiful thought. Thanks Savan!
Congrats on 25 years and what a beautiful trip to celebrate. London and Paris are two of my favorites. I am so glad you took your trip. Losing a parent is so hard. Hugs and blessings~
Thanks Pam. It’s so beautiful (and chilly) over here!).
As more time passes you will find messages from your father floating through time to you ….
Love you … Gigi
They are all sweet memories.
Beautiful photos of you, your Dad and Bob! Getting away to such magical places is just what you need right now. Becoming an empty nester and loosing your Dad at the same time is quite a lot to adjust to…I am sooo glad you are enjoying your trip!
Thanks Jenna. It has been a wild ride these past few weeks, and now, as we are leaving Paris and on our way back to London, then the USA, we’ve learned our college kid is sick, so . . . more prayers and drama in the coming weeks!
Happy 25th Leslie Anne and Bob!
Thank you, my darling Rachel!
