Greenery 2017
I know I’m a step behind, getting the new year off to a slow but wonderful start. Travel plus the flu have pushed my new year back a bit, but thankfully, this weekend I was finally able to get (most of ) the Christmas decorations put away.
Here’s my method; pile it all on the table while eating Chex Mix, then sort it out from there.

That’s why I’m just now focusing on what is important in life . . . the Pantone Color of the Year!
Such excitement can’t be found in any other galaxy but ours. And here it is . . . greenery.
Not just green. But “GREENERY.” Pantone has named an official color each year since 2000 (before that, I just perused my Crayola box for direction). The color of the year is chosen based on the, “cultural climate.”
Their web site says that greenery signifies beginnings, freshness, health, vegetarian trends, grass (really? that’s a stretch to get “grass” out of green!), spring and summer. It isn’t forest green, nor the lime green popular in years past, but a medium sort of green.
Here’s your ha-ha for the week. Here I am in college with my darling husband Bob at the Delta Tau Delta formal in 198 . . .?. I was determined not to show up wearing anything remotely similar to the other girls who usually wore black, red or blue, so I had a special taffeta green dress made. The dress had a big bow on my right shoulder and asymmetrical gathers with another big bow on my left hip. It was floor length with a slit on the side, which showed my green pumps, dyed to match perfectly. I had piled my long hair on top of my head and thought it was quite elegant. Bob was as cute as ever.
The official Pantone number of Greenery is: 15-0343, and actually . . . I like it.
For some strange reason, my favorite color has changed in and out about every seven years. Green used to be my all time favorite, but now I’m more of an orange person, but green still hangs strong with blue. So, I guess I’m a happy camper when it comes to greenery.
Just don’t give me “grey-ery.” Not a grey person at all. And guess what “Leslie” means? “From the grey fortress.”
What do you think? Are you a greenery lover? I’m just fascinated that someone has the job of choosing these colors every year. Or writing this kind of description — although, they managed to drag politics into something like a color. Geez! When and where will it end?

What’s your color of the year? Did you have a green taffeta dress in college?
OMG, Leslie, i wish you could see my Junior Prom dress, and I’ve always told much family to bury me in my newest green dress. Finally I’m “trendy.”
And what a lovely farewell you’ll have! Hahahaha! Picture of the prom dress being sent to me, right?
I actually love greenery, but I don’t buy into the color of the year. I bet every girl was green with envy when they saw you in 198??. What a cute couple!
Well, I hung out with some awfully cute girls then, so I don’t know about that, but speaking of “envy,” remember Scarlett O’Hara wore green and wished everyone would be,”pea green with envy” at the big ring Rhett gave her? Now that’s a good green memory!
Ms. Leslie, my goodness, what a beautiful couple you both made! I am sure you made quite a few hearts flutter!
You both are living proof that aging only made you both unbelievable!!
Honest!
Your green gown had to be a show stopper, your Sweetie a luck fellow!
I have slways liked green, any shade of it, so glad to see it give blue, some competition!
Arlene
Thanks Arlene. We had a good time that night. I don’t think we could stay out nearly as late now!
Green seems to be a color that pleases just about everyone. My grandmother loved green, and I remember she had a green and white checked floor in her kitchen.
Love the dress and you both make a pretty picture! I am sure you were the Belle of the Ball. You already know I love this color since I painted my LR that way. I am going to pin your collages because I saw some great ideas in there. Redheads wear green better than anyone — and I ought to know — I used to be one! ?
Bahaha! I love the bright green you always show in your house. It’s a good surprise from other colors.
Nice dress, Leslie Ann.
I love the color of the year, greenery! Green (many shades) is my fave color.
I wish I could find a photo of the entire length of the dress. I made my mother save it for years at her house, and I think it’s still there. Not that I could fit into it!
If it makes you feel any better, our tree just came down on Sunday (2 days ago) and I still have a lot of ornaments strewn across my living room floor. Looks like you have some lovely decorations.
I love the photo of you and Bob from college! You’re so pretty! Did you marry your college sweetheart? I had no idea. Love your green taffeta dress.
And I never knew that Pantone picked a color each year! I’m very familiar with the Pantone Matching System since I’m a graphic designer and my husband has a printing business. Thank you for enlightening us! My favorite color is red and has been for a long time now. Of course, it was pink in college and in high school, it was purple. I’m with you on the grey. I can’t stand grey! It’s SO boring and blah. Very depressing. Our house was grey when we bought it and we just finally painted it a few months ago. I had to suffer through that for a few years. Haha.
So glad to know I’m in good company on moving on from Christmas! We need to catch up sometime for sure. Who knew we’d both be blogging buddies after our life at the Phi Mu house? I’m going to have to do a story about your blog. I just love looking at all your fun creations! Take care!
I’m trying to imagine the endless meetings it must take to pick the color deemed to be the absolute, singularly perfect shade for the entire year. I do love green, especially the brighter ones like “Greenery”. Not such a big fan of pale mint green like one of the bridesmaid dresses I wore in 198…?
That 198? was a rough patch in fashion history. My bridesmaids actually wore deep emerald green in 1993. Soooo much better!
I’m sniffing a business background from you to mention the meetings at Pantone! How funny, because I can just imagine them now. Ms. Smith is miffed that her favorite Petunia Pink was rejected for the fourth year in a row and she knows it’s political because she accidentally poisoned everyone at the company picnic with her rancid potato salad. How was she to know her ice packs would melt before lunch was served?
Or not.
I guess the color name Gods ran out of ideas for color names this year, like Windchime [graygreen], Salute [maroon], and Baritone [blackish gray]…now at least we have an idea what the color really is!! I actually love this happy green shade, and am so glad bright colors are back trending. Why am I not surprised you went rogue and wore a green dress 🙂 Adorable photo!
Ha. Rogue. Good one! I should have known the artist in you was tuned in to every color nuance in the Pantone collection. The eye of an artist is sharp.
