Charles Phillips Antiques
Go over the bay, across the highway, over the river, down windy roads, across a bumpy field . . . then, you will be rewarded by finding antique nirvana, Charles Phillips Antiques. The destination shop, which is the secret place of antique dealers and designers, is tucked away in Theodore, Alabama, which is in the same neck of the woods as beautiful Bellingrath Gardens.
I got out of the antiques business a few months ago, but it’s so terribly hard to squelch that inner desire to “hunt” for that perfect piece. You know, the one you don’t know you can’t live without until you see it.
Here I am searching for that perfect antique in the world’s cutest mirror. Bahahaha!
Charles Phillips has been scouring the corners of Europe for over 40 years to find the treasures he knows his local clientele wants needs. Not only does the antique compound offer original items, but they also join relics together to form new pieces like these beautiful twin-sized bed swings. (hand me my lemonade and give me a push, will ya?)
I didn’t know how much I needed an old wagon until I saw this and realized how adorable it would be filled with a bale of hay and pumpkins this fall.
Smaller items like old demijohns, glass containers and these gorgeous french grain sacks were amongst the treasures to be found in barn after barn of unique items.
Shipping containers filled the yard and spilled over with architectural accents.
This green and white cabinet was my favorite item I found on this trip. I’m planning a kitchen re-do in a year or two (or three or four) and wouldn’t this make for excellent storage and add uber-character along the wall? No, I didn’t get it, but plan to go back and measure, which means it will probably be gone. Sigh.
This is an example of some of the oversized pieces Charles’ staff creates right there on site. You can custom order items and choose which pieces you want to use to perfectly fit your style and space.
Even beneath the old magnolia trees you’ll find plenty of hidden jewels.
If you plan a trip to Charles Phillips, then make sure you remember, they are only open Thursday – Saturday 9:30-5:00pm. Bring cash or checks with you because they don’t do plastic. Having their address plugged into Siri is also a helpful tip, because they are located in a super secret place . . . or so it seems, which makes it all the more fun to visit.

Oh Leslie Anne… I would have an absolute field day in that gorgeous shop! Another reason to move to Fairhope. Have a great weekend!!
Hey Katie! You could spend an entire day in this place and still not see everything! Happy weekend to you as well.
I love the potential kitchen cabinet! You should march your cute little self right back over there and get it! Oh, and that cute mirror, too!
I like the way you think!
What a find!! I love that place (through your pictures). I am following them on facebook now just for inspiration. Thanks so much for introducing us,
Deb
I’m fairly certain they update their site regularly, so it’s a good way to see all their shipments.
Oh my gosh! I can’t wait to go there….my son has one of his offices in Theodore and we pass right by there on our way to Biloxi (for the husband don’t you know?!)….you are so cute in that mirror….love your outfit! When I know I’m going maybe you could meet me there!
Wouldn’t that be fun!
Hello!
My goodness, Mr. Phillips has sure come a long way!
I remember when he was in Mobile, I believe in the bldg. that now is Cotton City.
Right? “Back in the day” he had the best “stuff”, looks like he still does, only more of it.
Will have to have the Hubs, drive me over the river, etc. sounds like a real adventure!
I thought I remembered CP being in Mobile, but wasn’t sure where it was. The place he has now has lots of room to spread out. If he had a little cafe’ out there, I could make it an entire field trip for the day!
*sigh*…..I dearly love Charles Phillips Antiques & Architecturals! Every time I’m in Mobile, I have to visit and bring back some treasure! And now that I think about it, it seems time for a visit!
The Alabama Department of Tourism thanks you greatly! (I’m sure).
Shhhh! Leslie Anne, girl, what are you doing blogging about our secret treasure hunting place?
It’s one of my favorite places to dig around. From your pics, it looks like they’ve done some great work to the entrance of the building since I was there last…maybe it’s time to go again. It’s a good drive for me, but so worth the trip.

There’s so much “stuff” there, I think there’s enough for us all!
Oh my goodness, all of those treasures make my heart skip a beat! I quit the vintage resale business about a month ago, too, and I still find myself constantly on the hunt! I sure wish I Iived closer, would love to shop with Mr. Phillips! 🙂 Have a great weekend! ~Rhonda
That was what I feared the most – when I finally made the decision to close my booth, I knew I would find the best deals of a lifetime!
Looks like my kind of place! It would be a long trip for me from NY but I would love to visit. I may find other great antique places along the way!
From New York? I think you’d find just a few good places to hunt for antiques. If you ever make the trip, bring a big truck!
Well, I am just sick that I didn’t know about this when I visited Bellingrath a couple of weeks ago. I’ll be sure to include an antiquing stop the next time I am down that way. I was in Fairhope and saw your post about the gathering (with cake) at Page & Palette so stopped by and bought a book or two. I kept my eyes peeled for you but didn’t think I saw anyone that I felt like I should tap on the shoulder and ask if she was you!
Oh, I hate that I missed you! Next time you are in Fairhope let me know. Usually there’s someone in Page and Palette that will know where I am. I hang out there and drink enough coffee, they keep pretty good track of me — and everyone in town for that matter!
Hope you had a fun trip, and glad you got to visit!
Oh, this place looks awesome. Pat and I are buying a new house and want to add some of our own ‘rustic’ touches to it. This place looks like they might just have some of the supplies we crave. Again, thank you for the recommendation. You find all the best stuff!
Take a snack with you when you go. You’ll be there all day. How exciting to be fixing up a new place!
