Touring Glennwood Estates
Here we are in lovely Glennwood Estates, an old established neighborhood in Decatur, Georgia. It was a beautiful summer day for a stroll, so I grabbed my camera to capture some of the charming homes along the way.
The first building I noticed was a beautiful apartment. With screened porches, awnings, arched windows, this was a true beauty.
Here’s another view of the apartments from the side. I’m guessing they had awesome wood floors.
This home sported a second floor sleeping porch over the port-a-cochere. There’s also a second floor porch on the other end of the house.
Window boxes and beautiful yards were the norm throughout the neighborhood. The original homes in Glennwood were built between the late 1920’s and late 1930’s.
The homes were all similar in style, yet different enough not to feel like modern cookie-cutter subdivisions.
This house featured a steep peeks, a decorative roof design and a wildflower garden in the front yard.
Many homes still sported their summer decorations.
From the side view, you can see that some of these homes have been added on to in the rear without taking away from the smaller scale in the front.
The neighborhood sits within walking distance of the main downtown area of Decatur, where many of the residents were going on this Saturday evening.
Beautiful and artistic brickwork was added to most homes.
This ivy covered house looked a bit newer than the others, but still blended in perfectly.
As I walked down the tunnel of Crepe Myrtles, I had a peaceful, safe feeling in this neighborhood. Although so close to a large urban area, it had a small hometown feel. Â Just like home.

Leslie Anne… what a beautiful, charming neighborhood! We have moved around a lot and Georgia has always been on my wish list. I just love windowboxes! The English Tudor looks like the house I grew up in. Have a great weekend!
I think you’ve landed in a good spot now, except for maybe all the snow! Every time you show photos of your area, I just fall in love with New England all over again!
Thanks for the tour Leslie Anne. I’ve never been here and it is a beautiful neighborhood. I love the house with the roof decoration, looks like it belongs in a fairytale book! I also love the ivy house, a dream too. When we visit my sister in Atlanta we sometimes drive to Decatur for shopping and the restaurants. A charming area.
I am totally drooling over here! What a grand tour. Such lovely homes. I would take any one of them.
I also wanted to thank you for your kind comments and friendship. You are a treasure. Have a blessed week!
These beautiful houses have certainly stood “the test of time”. I would love to live in any of them.
I couldn’t decide which one I liked best, they were all so charming!
Lovely neighborhood!
I had such a good time taking my time and looking at each one.
Oh, this is truly charming! Love the architecture!

That is very beautiful neighborhood! Thanks for joining HSH!
There is just something about a brick home . . . timeless. I’d have to drive down these streets on a daily basis:) Thanks so much for sharing!
My son lives there in the summer (working as a Nanny for a professor at Emory). The house with the steep roof and wildflowers looks straight out of a storybook. So charming! Thank you for all the photos. (I love eating in Decatur!)
Beautiful homes, love the style, and the Crepe Martel trees canopy the walkways sidewalks beautifully.
Thank you for such a beautiful share, so wish I lived there.
Xx

It was so nice to stroll beneath the cool shade of the trees!
Seeing these pictures is as fun as driving around with my Diet Coke and the window rolled down. We love to drive and look at houses. 🙂
Now, you know how to have a good time!
Stayed outside Atlanta several years ago, had to drive through Driving Miss Daisy neighborhood…loved it there. Would definitely go back. Also love the look of your blog and your photo in front of large mural…you look like a twenty-something, fabulous!
Thanks Beemie. You’re so right — that part of Atlanta does look like Driving M.D.!
