squid-3Fairhope is in the direct path of a yarn bomb!

Yarn Bomb - Art on a Limb, Fairhope, AL
These photos are all from other similar events I found on Pinterest.

In yet another clever effort to art-you-up-one-side-and-down-the-other, the Eastern Shore Art Center — ESAC, in conjunction with the Committee for Public Art — COPA, will sponsor “Art On A Limb” in beautiful downtown Fairhope. Opening September 10th and running through the 30th, the downtown will be yarn-tacular!

0e60b81bb6baabef32969c8024459b86Teams formed from civic groups, businesses, churches, book clubs, neighborhoods, schools . . . just about anyone, will choose a tree along our downtown area to decorate with any sort of textile. The sponsorship for each tree is $200 which will fund the project and help provide more art opportunities for the Eastern Shore area.

af7f4761c14da61198141ede1ecfc089The team’s name will be displayed on the tree, and the entire exhibit will remain on display for two weeks, giving everyone along the Gulf Coast a chance to come stroll the streets to admire the artwork!

46467604051841bf52127f66eedbaa4cAs long as the decorations don’t harm the tree or offend the birds, creativity is the rule of the day.

    1. It will be fun, and I can see photos of the event in the Fairhope history books decades from now. It will make those who come after us scratch their heads for sure!

  1. The stop sign and bus on my favorites. Marietta’s Museum of Art did this a couple of years ago. It’s a wonderful way to draw attention to knitting that’s often considered to be a “craft.”

I bet you’re already clicking away with those needles! Where’s Miss Marple when we need her?

    1. Would you believe I don’t know how to knit or crochet? My grandmother taught me how to make a chain, and I could make it go a mile long, but I never learned how to put it all together! I’m thinking about using old sweaters or something like that . . . or maybe just stick to writing about it!

I would have loved to have seen Marietta’s exhibit. Any photos?

      1. Buy other ladies crocheted blankets n cut ur width & hand sew end to end for a tree wrap or cut apart granny squares for ur own creative add ons to ur reputoire

  2. What a great idea to promote an actual talent and your town! I’d love to see it when it’s done (in September).

    1. Well, I hope you do get to see it in person, but I’m sure I’ll have a photo or two or fifty here on the blog!

    1. Oh, drats! No. It only runs for the two weeks in September. But don’t worry, October is one of the prettiest months here! We’ll have something special just for you! Make sure you let me know when you are here so I can meet my reader from the UK! (besides the Queen).

    1. Ready for the show! The flowers have been changed to fall colors and great backdrop weather

      1. It’s going to be gorgeous. I caught the flower fairies downtown last night removing the last of the summer flowers. I can’t wait to see what they’ve done this morning!

  3. Great idea to get the community working together.
