In yet another clever effort to art-you-up-one-side-and-down-the-other, the Eastern Shore Art Center — ESAC, in conjunction with the Committee for Public Art — COPA, will sponsor “Art On A Limb” in beautiful downtown Fairhope. Opening September 10th and running through the 30th, the downtown will be yarn-tacular!
Teams formed from civic groups, businesses, churches, book clubs, neighborhoods, schools . . . just about anyone, will choose a tree along our downtown area to decorate with any sort of textile. The sponsorship for each tree is $200 which will fund the project and help provide more art opportunities for the Eastern Shore area.
The team’s name will be displayed on the tree, and the entire exhibit will remain on display for two weeks, giving everyone along the Gulf Coast a chance to come stroll the streets to admire the artwork!
Some textile installations stick to a theme or color scheme, but in true Fairhope fashion, this will be an, “anything goes” sort of thing.
As long as the decorations don’t harm the tree or offend the birds, creativity is the rule of the day.
This will serve as a small fundraiser for the ESAC, but will mainly be a showing of love for our city and its rich history of promoting the arts.
If you live in our area (Mobile and Pensacola too!), get your teams ready and your creative brains working. For those who like to be the audience, make plans to visit Fairhope during this time to see this fun installation.
There will be a non-manditory informational, “How To” meeting regarding this project on Saturday, May 7th at 3:00 at the ESAC. For more information, or to register your team, contact the ESAC at: 251-928-2228 or go to their web site HERE.
