Cain's Piggly Wiggly, Fairhope Alabama

All I needed to do was to dash into the Cain’s Piggly Wiggly, grab some milk and eggs for breakfast the next morning and be on my way. But there it was .  .  . a surprise party! Darling girls from Bayshore Christian School were playing beautiful Christmas music while the Pig kept time. The party was to celebrate and promote all the wonderful local products offered by Piggly Wiggly.  Almost every aisle featured a local Alabama company that makes something delicious.

Mook Mills Cheese Straws Fairhope AlabamaI was very happy to find a new brand of my favorite snack – cheese straws! These new cheese straws from Mook Mills are just the best EVER! The price is great too, compared to others who charge almost double. Made in Florence, AL they are the perfect Southern snack food. I’m going back to load up for Christmas tea time!

Zeigler sausage dogs at Cain's Piggly Wiggly in FairhopeThere was a crowd gathered around the Zeigler sausage dog table. Made in Tuscaloosa, the delicious aroma filled the entire back section of the store. Who doesn’t like savory sausage?

PJ's Deep South Seasoning at Cains Piggly Wiggly Fairhope

I’ve used PJ’s Deep South Seasonings since I found them last year and can tell you they are wonderful. I use the Original blend on many types of meat and even sprinkle it on salads. I love that it has no MSG, since I’m just not sure why anything would have MSG. Yuck. Go natural.

I tasted the peppermint flavor and just about fell over it was so good. But in the end, my freezer would only hold one tub and I remembered how much my 16 year old loves egg-nog, so I took home the egg nog flavor for him. (what a nice Mom, and oh yes . . . I love egg nog too). This is Sharon Cain with her former student who said she loves working with Cammie’s and also loves Mrs. Cain!

Cain's Piggly Wiggly in Fairhope AlabamaEverywhere I turned, happy Piggly Wiggly employees were passing out treats of one kind or the other. Mr. and Mrs. Cain have always put serving the community at the top of their list of priorities. Helping the school children raise money that night for an upcoming trip, supporting local manufacturers, and providing their customers a fun evening are all important to their store.

There were many other local products featured as well, but I was so busy eating, socializing and oh yes . . . finding the milk and eggs for breakfast, that I didn’t get a chance to photograph it all.

Fairhope Roasting Co. Cain's Piggly WigglyMake sure you sign up with Cain’s Piggly Wiggly by giving them your email address so you can be notified of their next Local’s Night. It’s so fun to meet the people behind the products they sell. They all have dreams of seeing their products sitting on the store shelves, and thanks to Cain’s Piggly Wiggly, those dreams are coming true!

  • Who knew there was a party going on at the Pig?!? I hate I missed this. Looks like everyone was there! Oh well, maybe next year…

  • Hooray for the Pig for promoting local businesses.

  • Cammies’s peppermint ice-cream looks like a party that is about to happen. Did not know about this wonderful treat.

    • Leslie Anne says:

We used to have peppermint ice-cream at the Phi Mu house on special occasions like initiation night, but ours was only pink, not the holiday green and red like Cammie’s makes. Every time I take a bite of peppermint ice-cream of any color combination, it takes me back to the Phi Mu house at FSU!

  • Sharon Calvert says:

I just discovered Cammie’s ice cream at The Pig in Foley this week, and have been ‘pigging out’ on the peppermint. Next taste test will be the Lemon Custard!

    • Leslie Anne says:

It’s a total treat, and what better time than Christmas to treat yourself? Glad you found it!

  • I know I am a northern girl, but darn if that doesn’t put the south in me…I remember my days in my unifrom and saddle shoes, I guess the north and south wear the same uniform. Great post…that peppermint ice cream looked delicious.

    • Leslie Anne says:

Those little girls were precious. There were also other students who were bagging groceries for tips. All the money raised was to help them earn a trip to Washington D.C. Cain’s Piggly Wiggly is so good about helping all the local school children.

And yes . . . the ice cream was fabulous! We’ve finished the egg nog and now I’m going back for peppermint!!!

  • Love to find Alabama made products. Learned about several new one. Thanks for the information.

    • Leslie Anne says:

Things taste better when they’re made in Alabama.
      It’s a scientific fact.

  • Sharon Cain says:

Thanks for the great article. We always have a wonderful time at the Fairhope store’s Taste of LA

    • Leslie Anne says:

Taste of LA . . . Lower Alabama, where everyone knows and values good food! Thanks for the party!

  • Leslie Anne says:

Eating, shopping, happy recorder music and Santa Pig . . . what’s not to like?

  • I still have my girl’s recorders. I just can’t get rid of them. Maybe the Grands will use them one day! I always love eating and shopping!
