Snuggled in the back of the new-ish Section Place in Fairhope, the new Greek restaurant is finally (finally!!!) open. “It’s all Greek to me” is owned by Miami transplants Jon and Ephigenia (Effie) Lindeman. Effie is authentically Greek and all the recipes are from her family. — And don’t you just love her name?
Fleeing a hurricane, the family arrived in Fairhope and seven days later, had bought a house and made plans to open a restaurant in their newly found hometown.
The restaurant took such a long time to open because of all the tiny details added. The decor, wine list, menus and even the Greek music were carefully planned.
Oh! (OPA!) was it worth the wait? YES!
Bob and I ordered the Hercules platter to sample a little bit of everything and loved it all. Our friends at another table had the Moussaka and said it was fabulous. In all fairness of reporting, another table of friends (small town, we all know each other) said their dishes weren’t spicy enough, but I think that may be due to the newness of the restaurant testing the taste buds of folks in Alabama. They don’t know we are good-to-go for great-deep-flavors. The couple liked the restaurant enough to say they’d come back and try it again another time — proving how kind and open-minded we are.
One of the employees said working at this restaurant is just like the movie, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” — including the Windex! You can tell they are all having fun with this new place and love working there.
They had the best stuffed grape leaves I’ve ever had.
The prices here are fair for the freshness and authentic ingredients you get, yet still higher than most surrounding restaurants for lunch. Overall, I give It’s all Greek to Me two big thumbs up!
