Artist Paige August Summers

July 19, 2012

Artist Paige August Summers is a piece of the puzzle that makes Fairhope so wonderfully creative, quirky,  and interesting.  She’s a major force in the art world, having started her career at Yves St. Laurent, Chanel, Lancome, and Paloma Picasso.  Her work has been exhibited all around the world, and Paige served as the Artist in Residence at the famed Greenbriar Hotel.

Originally from Chicago, Paige now works and lives in our own Fairhope. Little ole’ Fairhope?  Pray tell, now how did that happen?

Well, let me tell you . . . after stints in New York and Atlanta, Paige felt the call of the coast.  She made her way to the beaches of North West Florida, then one day, realized that although it was beautiful, it wasn’t a real “neighborhood”.  She explained,

“My search and my soul longed for a community”

(That’s exactly how Paige speaks – lyrical every time she opens her mouth!). Paige began asking everyone if they knew any type of place like “Cheers – you know, where everybody knows your name.”  Time after time she got the same response – “Fairhope.”

Paige visited Fairhope for the first time during one of our exciting First Friday Art Walks when the downtown galleries stay open late, and everyone gathers to view amazing art and catch up with friends. Out of nowhere, a total stranger looked at Paige and said “You are FABULOUS!” and pulled her over to meet his friends, who instantly loved her.  It was then, Paige realized she had found a home.

Paige said the welcoming attitude she first experienced during Art Walk, is actually the thing she likes best about Fairhope; that people love and accept you for who you are.

Paige is always in demand to create her magic with celebrities, but finds time to squeeze in work for local clients as well.  Her recent painting of Ringo Starr, is currently on display at Compleat Studio in Orange Beach.  Ringo himself is rumored to have ADORED the portrait.

And we adore Paige!
