Biscuits and Gravy — CHIPS?
Here’s a very important message:
I’m partial to Golden Flake anyway, since they are made in Birmingham, Sweet Home Alabama, but I was tempted to stray with Lay’s promise of the taste of biscuits and gravy, which is one of the best tastes in the world next to fried catfish and real Southern BBQ.
Since the chip industry has nailed the BBQ taste, I gave them a chance with the biscuits and gravy idea, but honey . . . somethin’ ain’t right. There’s a wang to these chips that makes you tear-up because you feel like you’ve been tricked. It’s not bad . . . but it’s not biscuits, nor is it gravy.
You’ve got to hand it to the Lay’s folks. They’re trying some wild flavors they think reflect the flavors of different regions of the United States. It’s a contest with a $1 million prize for the winning taste. You can read more about it HERE. I love potato chips and appreciate a good marketing campaign, but . . . bless their hearts.

If you live in Fairhope and want to taste good biscuits and gravy, go to The Country Queen Cafe. Or go to your Granny’s house. Or make it yourself.
Have you tried Lay’s Biscuit and Gravy Chips? What do you think? Consider yourself warned.
You can get English Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding chips in England.

But why? If I want English Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding, I’ll just get English Beef and Yorkshire Pudding. Now that I think of it, I’ve never had nor desired English Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding.
Oh, my goodness! Lays needs to stop already! I’ve not seen these and I don’t think I’m as brave as you to actually try them. Just give me plain, ruffled, sour cream and onion and my favorite – barbequed! They need to quit all these testings! Hope you’re headed for a great week.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉
The wildest thing I actually like are the dill pickle chips, but even then, I can only eat a few. Potatoes have a good flavor all their own.
Thanks Sheila, and hope you have a wonderful week as well.
I think the farthest I’m willing to stray would be BBQ or salt & vinegar chips. I’m pretty sure that what Americans DON’T need is more choices in the potato chip aisle!
Good point! How about more choices in “fruits and nuts” (which is the unofficial name of a neighborhood here in Fairhope – because of the street names, not the residents!).
I’ve seen the flavored chips, but not been brave enough to try any yet, lol! Not sure if we have biscuits and gravy, but they’ve introduced some pretty wild flavors in our area, too. On your recommendation, I’ll steer clear! 🙂 ~Rhonda
Hey . . . be my guest and try them yourself. You may love them! (let me know if you do!).
Love my biscuits and gravy, but I want the real thing!!
Yes, I think if the “real thing” has a different texture and temperature, it’s difficult to get it right on a chip.
I think Lays needs to leave well enough alone. It is not like they need to improve on good ol/ biscuits and gravy for crying out loud. I will tell you what…lets let Lays stick to making plain potato chips (BBQ, ruffled, sour cream and onion being the acceptable deviations), and let me stick to making biscuits and gravy? I promise the world will be a better place.
Hope you have a wonderful week.
Mmm. I’d love to have some of your biscuits right now!
Oh my, a friend sent me a picture of a bag of these that she spotted in Walmart about a week ago and we got a good laugh! I haven’t tasted one and based on your recommendation think I’ll just stick with plain old Lays!
I’m sure someone, somewhere out there loved them, or else they wouldn’t have been created in the first place. But I wonder if that decision maker ever had REAL biscuits and REAL gravy?
I just saw this in the grocery store today…if I am going to eat a chip (and my hips and thighs say, “No, don’t do it”) I want to make sure its worth it. Thanks for the review. I will steer clear.
Hey – you may love them! Eat just one . . . (tempt, tempt, tempt)
NONONONO! Last winter I saw cappuccino and a few other oddities I did not sample. This sounds terrible. I only go for jalapeño and salt and vinegar. Anything else is an abomination!
Cappuccino? Now chips can be a breakfast food!
Well, I think the bottom of the barrel has been reached! Surely someone was poking fun and Lays took it seriously. You’re right! Bless their hearts!
But someone’s going to win a million buck-a-roos!
Haven’t seen the Biscuits and Gravy chips here but I have seen the New York Reuben. I love chips but I wasn’t even tempted. Love the classic and BBQ. My all time favorite chips are Hawaiian Luau BBQ kettle style chips. Yummy!
Good ole Golden Flake chips and coke. “Great pair says the Bear. “
For some reason, we’ve given the BBQ chips a “pass” but these others just don’t make sense!
And I thought dill pickle chips were crazy! Thanks for the heads up, I won’t waste my $$$$………..
How about a Krispy Kreme chip?
I didn’t even consider the biscuits and gravy chips. Biscuits and gravy yes but no to the chips. I am the granny who makes the biscuits and gravy. The “elderly gentleman” I live with approves.:-) We are in agreement about the chips. He said no too.
I’ll bet your biscuits are dee-licious!
