Saturday Morning With Friends
If you want to see a force that rivals a hurricane, just watch the power of, “the ladies of the church.”
Like most fundraisers, the project started with someone saying, “You know, we should do something to help.” Julia Crow of Pensacola, saw a need and decided several local charities could use extra funding, so she enlisted her friend Connie Vance to help, and with the coordination of the ladies of their church, First United Methodist Church of Pensacola Florida, they produced, “Saturday Morning With Friends.”
The first breakfast in 2016 was a huge success with almost 300 attendees, and raised needed funds for The United Methodist Children’s Home of Alabama and Northwest Florida, as well as The After School Program at C.A. Weis — A Community School, a program of the Children’s Home Society of Florida. Now, the group is fired up, and ready to do it all again.
And guess what . . . ?
I get to be their guest speaker! I know! How fun is this going to be? My topic will be, Grits, God and Gayfers — proof we are loved.

For those of you who are in the Pensacola area, I’d love for you to join us at, “Saturday Morning With Friends” on Saturday, February 11th. The exciting morning begins at 8:30am with doors opening to reveal an impressive silent auction. A scrumptious Southern breakfast will be served at 9am with all the trimmings, including a grits bar — oh my! Tickets are $15 per person, or a reserved table of 8 for $200. Guests are encouraged to wear RED to coincide with a “Seeing Red” theme to the silent auction! Oh, how I love a good theme.
Local artists have donated gorgeous note cards for sale.
When I was invited to participate, Julia sent me the kindest note and explained the event, and my answer was simply . . . “You had me at grits bar.”

Ha, it gets me that during my time in service, hearing all those air force vets from other parts of the country talking about grits as if it were the worse thing ever to eat. What?! Tain’t nuthin’ but cooked corn meal, nuthin’ terrible about that.

Oh, Leslie Anne, Thank you! Connie and I and the Committee are so excited! We have some fabulous “Seeing Red” Auction – something for everyone! This year’s “Sharing the Love” cards are so unique – hand made and donated by local artists! And the “Helping Children Opportunity to Own” items for the drawing are over the top!

Leslie Anne, when you’ve finished gallivanting all around way over there in Pensacola, come home, put your feet up, take a nap and then come join us at the Fairhope Public Library as the Friends of the FPL pull out all the stops for Chocolate and Champagne, our annual fundraiser.
Wonderful silent and live auction items … a week in Umbria anyone? … with good and old Friends all around.

What a wonderful cause, and you are sure to make it great fun and fabulous! We had guests visiting this week from Minnesota, and my husband insisted on making cheese grits for them. They didn’t like the grits at all but ate plenty of the beignets I made, were are basically fried biscuits 🙂 A grits bar is sure to please even the pickiest!
