Which comes first, the column or the blog post?

Well, usually, the column comes first, then I share it here on the blog.

But this week’s article for al.com came about a bit backwards.

My column appears in the Sunday edition of The Mobile Press, The Birmingham News and The Huntsville Times and after it appears on the al.com web site, I finally publish it here on the blog.

Well, this time, the blog post came first, then it developed into a full column for the paper. Go figure.

You may remember a couple of weeks ago I wrote a little post about what it’s like to be 16 in the summer in the South (here), which featured my 16 year old son Joseph’s photography. So many of you liked it and commented on it, that I took the short blog post and expanded it to a full-length newspaper column for this coming Sunday.

It’s been on the paper’s on-line site this week and the best part is, they were able to use all of Joseph’s photos in a slide-show format. He’s very excited, and I’m so proud of him.

And as always, thanks for reading and for giving me such good feedback!

Leslie Anne, your newest edition for AL.com is indeed a great article. Spot on story! I am so excited that you getting to use your talents. I am sure Joseph is feeling pretty cool too that his photos are getting attention.
I really don’t want to be 16 again, but it is fun to remember. Now, I could take it back a few years from 55.

Yes, 16 was fun, but not sure I’d want to live through it all again either.
Thanks for the kind words, and hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Leslie Anne, what a fine photographer Joseph already is!

And both your newspaper article and the blog post that inspired it stirred summer memories in me of the 16 year old I once was. Boys were a strange creature to me then as I had 3 sisters and only 2 boy cousins in a huge flock of girls. It took having 3 sons myself to get to know them and you have seen into the heart of a 16 year old Southern young man.

A fine piece of writing and photographs!

Thanks Dewena. You may not have had boys around when you were growing up, but I’m sure it was a completely different kind of fun!
