I’ve been giddy with book-loving excitement since I received a copy of Mary Kay Andrew’s new novel, “Save The Date” which officially hits stores Tuesday, June 3rd.
You may remember, how fabulously important I am now that I’ve actually met Mary Kay Andrews in person at her beach house on Tybee Island. Hmm. (Back to reality . . .) Mary Kay, or Kathy, is amazingly down to earth for someone who has written so many smash – Â hit, top ten books. Anyone who meets her for just a few minutes would instantly feel like a dear friend. (But I swear, I really am.)
Save The Date is set in charming Savannah, Georgia and revolves around the ins and outs of a floral designer who works with lots of brides. Some sweet, some snippy, but all provide much needed income for the hard working business owner, Cara Kryzik. I am on the last chapter of the book, and I can tell it’s a winner, because I’m intentionally slowing down, in order to savor the story and make it last a little longer.
Although Mary Kay Andrew’s stories often focus on the trials, adventures and loves of women, her books never come across as, “chick – lit” or lightweight novels. I think it’s because Kathy has a serious background in journalism with a degree from one of the best – if not the best journalism school in the country, The University of Georgia.  This hard working writer started her career as a serious news reporter for The Atlanta Journal Constitution and was trained to produce concise and informative stories.
This solid training in journalism is evident in Kathy’s novels, with each sentence being perfectly woven into the next, blanketing us with a lighthearted story, with serious style. Her books are the thinking-woman’s way of enjoying a good tale.
Save The Date will be launched June 3rd in Savannah, and Kathy will then proceed to make a string of appearances throughout the country, including . . . Fairhope, Alabama on June 19th!!! Our favorite independent bookstore, Page and Palette  will be hosting Mary Kay Andrews at the Fairhope Public Library for a question and answer session at 6pm, so make sure you run over to Page and Palette and get your book before then!
There will also be Save the Date events in Houston, Nashville, Charleston, Birmingham . . . and if you think for a second that just because Kathy’s stories are set in the South she only has fans in this part of the country, oh no . . . she’ll be meeting fans in Fair Haven, New Jersey and Chicago as well! Click here to see a list of all her appearances.
From someone who mainly enjoys non – fiction and is very particular about any fiction I read, I highly recommend Save the Date as a wonderfully written, fun and endearing book.
And it isn’t just because it was written by my darling friend.
